Sensation Pear Trees

Sensation Pear Trees

'Sensation' this is a red version of the excellent Williams Bon Chretien that crops a little earlier. Like its parent, it's a sublime eating pear, with almost more juice than flesh and a flavour to match pretty much any other.

It brightens up the garden in spring, when its young leaves have a reddish colour. The tree is naturally quite narrow and upright, so it's a good choice if you're worried about fitting a full sized tree into your garden, and it makes a very good cordon trained against a wall.

Browse our range of pear trees or the full variety of fruit trees.

Features

  • Eating.
  • Self Sterile.
  • Pollination Group D (Incompatible with Williams bon Chretien)
  • Spur Bearer: suitable for cordons & training on wires.
  • Harvest: August.

Pollination Partners for Sensation Pears:
Sensation is in pollination group D which means that it'll cross-pollinate with trees in groups C & D, except for Williams bon Chretien.
See our guide to Pollinating Pear Trees for a full list of partners for Sensation. We especially recommend the eating pears Comice and Conference or the cooking/perry pear Winter Nelis.

Growing Sensation Pear Trees:
Rich soil is important - dig in plenty of good manure and compost before planting so the ground holds moisture but drains as well. Always use Rootgrow. The more sun your trees get the better your crops will be.

History & Trivia

Sensation is a sport (a natural variation) of the massively popular pear Williams Bon Chretien. It was discovered in Australia in 1940.
