Meteorite: Bright Yellow Flowers Against Near-Black Foliage
Meteorite is a decorative dahlia that does something David Howard does in burnt orange, but in bright, clean yellow. The 15cm flowers are a glowing golden yellow, and they sit against dark greeny-bronze foliage that's almost black. The contrast is dramatic: sunshine blooms on dark stems and leaves.
At 90cm with a compact 50cm spread, it's a manageable mid-border plant. The dark foliage earns its place even before the first flower opens, which is a quality shared with the Bishop dahlias and David Howard. It flowers from July to November.
Companions for Meteorite
The yellow-against-dark-foliage makes Meteorite a natural partner for David Howard (burnt orange, same dark leaves, 90cm) and Bishop of Llandaff (scarlet, dark foliage, 90cm). Three dahlias at the same height with dark foliage throughout and flower colours running from yellow through orange to scarlet. Rudbeckia and Helenium extend the golden theme.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Meteorite compare to David Howard?
David Howard is burnt orange with 10cm flowers. Meteorite is bright yellow with 15cm flowers. Both have dark foliage. Different colours, different scales, same dramatic effect. Plant them together.
Will Meteorite grow in a pot?
At 90cm with a compact spread, it works well in a container of at least 30cm across. The dark foliage looks particularly good in a dark glazed pot. Our container guide has more.
Is Meteorite good for cutting?
Excellent. The bright yellow against dark stems looks striking in a vase. Cut only fully open flowers. Full growing advice in our dahlia growing guide.
