Guinee Rose Bushes

Guinee Rose Bushes

Guinee Rose Bushes

Guinee is a Climbing Rose with deep red flowers, some of the darkest of any climber. A sweeping fragrance that is made to be enjoyed on a warm day. It's best planted against a light coloured background, to show off its flowers to best effect. It practically explodes with blooms in its first flush of the year in late spring, and repeats well enough through the summer. Vigorous but tidy to 5m/15ft.

It can be known to take two or three years to start blooming really well, especially in less sunny sites (so we really recommend it for a hot, South facing wall), but it's worth the wait. If your soil is poor, then go the extra mile to improve it.

History & Trivia

Bred by the heating engineer and amateur rose breeder Charles Mallerin in Varce in North West France, during the 1930's, and released in 1937 by his friend, Auguste Guillot, whose nursery is today called Guillot Bourne II. The parents are Souvenir de Claudius Denoyel and Ami (or Henri) Quinard.
